Craig Micheal | Air National Guard

For many military families, the strains of service extend far beyond the battlefield. When deployments occur, spouses are left to shoulder the responsibilities of home life alone, often navigating unexpected challenges. But sometimes, amidst the turmoil, there shines a beacon of hope – organizations like Soldier’s Wish, dedicated to easing the burdens of those who have sacrificed so much for their country.

Craig Michael is a dedicated Air Force veteran whose journey spans over two decades of service to his nation. Craig’s military career began in 1998 with the Iowa Air National Guard, where he served until 2003. He then continued his service with the Alaska Air National Guard from 2003 to 2008 before transitioning to the Oklahoma Air National Guard, where he remains stationed to this day. Throughout his tenure, Craig rose to the rank of Master Sgt., showcasing his commitment and dedication to duty.

Deployments to conflict zones such as Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan in 2007, Al Asad Air Base in Iraq in 2011, and Kandahar Air Base in Afghanistan in 2013 underscore Craig’s courage and sacrifice. His service has not gone unnoticed, although Craig remains humble about his accomplishments, stating, “Still serving” when asked about awards and medals received during his tenure.

Beyond his military duties, Craig is deeply involved in various organizations within the Air National Guard. He has served as an Aircrew Life Support Technician in Iowa, transitioned to Aircrew Flight Equipment roles in Alaska and Oklahoma, and in 2017, he cross-trained into the Public Affairs career field. Currently, Craig serves as a Public Affairs Supervisor with the 138th Fighter Wing, showcasing his versatility and adaptability throughout his career.

However, Craig’s story extends beyond his military service. Like many service members, he faces the challenges of balancing duty with family life. Craig’s spouse, Rachel, attests to his unwavering commitment to their family, especially during her deployments. As she serves her country abroad, Craig takes on the role of both parents, ensuring their children’s well-being and maintaining the household.

Yet, amidst the daily struggles, a stroke of misfortune struck when lightning damaged their home, adding an unexpected financial burden to an already stressful situation. Craig found himself grappling with the daunting prospect of costly repairs, unsure of how to manage the expenses while Rachel was deployed.

Enter Soldier’s Wish – a lifeline in their time of need. The organization stepped in to alleviate the financial strain, offering to cover the cost of repairs and lifting a weight off Craig’s shoulders. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Craig expressed, “I never thought I would be on the receiving end of such a gracious gift… I will forever be grateful for this organization and how they lifted us up during this hard time.”

For Craig and his family, Soldier’s Wish represents more than just financial assistance; it embodies the spirit of camaraderie and support within the military community. As Rachel reflects on Craig’s service and sacrifices, she acknowledges his selfless dedication to both country and family, expressing profound gratitude for his unwavering commitment.

In the face of adversity, organizations like Soldier’s Wish serve as a testament to the power of community and compassion. Through their generosity, they provide hope and relief to military families, ensuring that no one faces their challenges alone. For Craig Michael and his family, Soldier’s Wish has made an indelible impact, reaffirming the bonds of service and sacrifice that unite them with their fellow service members and supporters alike.
